The building excitement as the contestant prepares for the show.
The rush as she steps on the stage knowing the first impression is the ONLY Impression.

Shelly,
First I would like to say that you are the most wonderful person I have ever known. The teaching and struggle through the pageant world as a contestant, hairdresser and director is outstanding. I met Shelly in 1993 when she competed for Mrs. Gretna and let it be known she screamed when I called her name out as the winner! She was crying and very excited. That is when it all started -she was an incredible queen for us.
We actually changed her crown from the original due to the fact she was promoting our system 24/7. She made a mark on the City of Gretna and me. She has always wanted knowledge and she asked a lot of questions. She has inspired more beauty queens and helping loan gowns, hair, makeup anything she could do to help a fellow contestant out. I feel that is why she is the person she is today. She cares and always wants to do the right thing. My friendship with her all these years have made me a better person.
The book she has written is a wonderful tool for learning. I think it is necessary to teach others just like she was taught -you learn from your mistakes. In this case she has taking the mistakes and guess work out in this book. If there was an award for a person that is true, loving and devoted to a cause it would go to her.
I am so blessed to have such a person in my life. I would like to thank Shelly for keeping me alive in the pageant industry. Shelly always said that Mary West was a role model for her, and I have to agree. I also learned a lot from Mary being on her staff and being a devoted friend. So if you are considering this book don't hesitate! Get it and learn from experience.
My experience being a preliminary director for Miss America, Teen America, Ms. America and Mrs. America pageants have taught me not just on a local level but on a national level. If Shelly calls me and says I need you I am on the next plane out. I loved all my queens but 2 always stand out Shelly Winters Black & Denise McKnight, they are my girls.
Best of Luck with this book
Love you Always
